On the keeping of time (2014)
light and kinetic based installation at Fairfield Museum & Gallery
On the keeping of time (2014) seeks to explore the nature of time within a historical museum setting. In response to the site, it aims to consider what the artefacts of personal histories may look like alongside observable representations of time unfolding. Through the use of various time keeping devices (a metronome, an analog clock, an optical sequence) where an attempt to visually capture or perceive the steady nature of time is inherent, and yet by removing their original intended function, these works consider the many versions and scale of time; solar, lunar, geological, astronomical and cosmic. Ultimately this work reflects on the keeping of time as not only a marking of an instant but as providing a tangible sense of moments past and an approaching infinity.
